Purpose


Reporting to the Director & Head, Credit Solutions Group, the Director Strategic Credit Initiatives will contribute to the success of Canadian Business Banking by leading and executing several E.O. Credit Solutions Group business objectives and initiatives in accordance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.


In this role you will work on multiple projects and initiatives being managed at any given time, involving numerous stakeholders both internal and external, while developing and maintaining strong relationships with key partners. This position will have direct reports.



Accountabilities:


  • Leads and drives a customer-focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Serves as the Canadian Banking business lead in executing the regulatory Benchmark Rate Reform project.
  • Drives the development, delivery and sustainment of industry lending strategies. Leverages sector and market knowledge to build and support credit programs and other product resources, ensuring their continued relevance within the context of the prevailing operating model and appropriately balancing overall business objectives with the Bank’s credit risk appetite.
  • Oversees a robust reporting framework to regularly inform senior leadership on accounts and trends within the Canadian Business Banking credit portfolio.
  • Provides ongoing subject matter expertise and end-to-end perspective to inform standard operating procedures and other credit resources for Canadian Business Banking and key partners.
  • Understands how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Creates an environment in which the team pursues effective and efficient operations in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
  • Builds a high performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates the team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviors; communicating vision/values/business strategy; and, managing succession and development planning for the team.


Education / Experience / Other Information:

  • 10+ years of progressive Canadian Business Banking & Global Risk Management experience
  • MBA/CA/CFA an asset
  • Strong knowledge of traditional lending products, trade finance, derivatives, cash management, and their relevance/suitability within simple and complex financing arrangements
  • Strong awareness of economic and business trends as they relate to the Bank’s credit risk appetite, together with technological, legal, regulatory and compliance factors affecting Canadian Business Banking
  • Knowledge of Project Management
  • Execution mindset underpinned by strong communication, creativity, curiosity, problem-solving and project management skills
  • Ability to develop credibility and strategic influence with internal and external stakeholders, including senior leadership within various areas of the Bank
  • Ability to identify, develop and coach talent
  • Client first focus, results-oriented with a strong sense of urgency and accountability
  • Ability to work non-standard hours as required
  • Ability to Travel domestically as required
