Community Health Nurse

This competition is to hire full-time permanent Community Health Nurses at Whitehorse Health Center; an eligibility list will be used for future identical or similar vacancies within the Whitehorse Health Centre.

As a Community Health Nurse (CHN) you will focus on preventative health strategies to promote the health and wellbeing of our community members. Reporting to the Nurse in Charge, this position will deliver preventative services in the form of screening, assessment, immunization, education/consultation, and health counseling to individuals and groups. Working as a CHN, you will be part of a team that constantly strives to improve services to the Yukon people.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Baccalaureate in Nursing
  • Current Registration in good standing with a Canadian registered nursing regulatory authority
  • Recent experience in public health nursing or related field with emphasis on breastfeeding education, immunization, health protection, illness prevention, health promotion and community development.

Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Suitability:
Candidates should have and may be assessed on:

  • Strong knowledge in community health programs.
  • Strong knowledge in immunization delivery.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, communication, organization, and flexibility.
  • Work independently & within a diverse team.
  • Ability to lead, instruct and counsel.
  • Clear understanding of confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of breastfeeding best practices is considered an asset.

Additional Information:

Conditions of employment: TB risk Screening, Security Clearance with vulnerable sector, Valid Driver’s Licence, BScN, current Yukon RN registration in good standing, Current CPR HCP



Job Requirements: Regular exposure to infectious agents, this position requires frequent driving, occasional lifting and moving of clients and equipment, visiting clients in their homes. Ability to travel within Yukon up to 20%.
