Yukon University is seeking an Associate Vice-President, University Relations (AVP UR) to provide bold and integrated leadership to a diverse, vibrant, and evolving portfolio, including community and government relations, strategic communications, marketing and branding, digital and social media, fundraising and advancement, and alumni relations. This is a critical strategic leadership role that is instrumental in helping Yukon University to realize it’s vision to become a “thriving learning and research community leading Canada’s North.” The incumbent will work across all portfolios of the institution to enhance the University’s relationships, impact, accountability and reputation.
Reporting to the President and Vice-Chancellor and working directly with the President’s Executive Committee, the Associate Vice-President University Relations is accountable for external relations including external communications and relations with media, communities, governments, alumni and the public. In this role, the AVP UR will lead the development and execution of an integrated external relations strategy to move the institution beyond communication to genuine engagement and support. In this regard, the AVP UR has responsibility for leading, enhancing and developing private and public support and engagement, for developing philanthropy and for building YukonU’s presence locally and across the territory, and nationally.
With a proven track record of expertise and success as a solid administrator and manager of complexities, the AVP UR will leverage, catalyze, and elevate external relations priorities and goals at Yukon University while instilling confidence for effective and efficient follow-through. As the unit is currently structured, the AVP UR will lead a team of 2 direct reports and up to 10 professionals. The AVP UR will be an effective team leader and team builder who will inspire, coach, and empower team members in achieving new levels of success in meaningful and transformative community engagement and government relations.
The AVP UR will be an integral member of the President’s Executive team and the university’s Senior Executive Committee. The incumbent will embrace and proudly represent Yukon University and be a key leader in the implementation of Becoming, the University’s 5-year strategic plan, and will be a solid force in establishing Yukon University as a driver for a vibrant, prosperous and inclusive future for the territory.
