The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the Branch Manager the Public Service Assistant, (PSA) is responsible for the day to day provision of borrower services, including readers’ advisory and user-support of library and digital resources. This position may be called upon to provide relief services at any service point. As the Assistant, Public Service, you will perform the following duties, including but not limited to:

  • Provide exemplary customer service to all patrons of Caledon Public Library in person, over the phone or via email.
  • Perform all circulation functions: check books in and out, register patrons, collect fees, place holds, etc.
  • Respond to enquiries regarding patron accounts and borrower services
  • Provides reference and readers advisory services
  • Provides general technical support and assistance to patrons making use of available library technology

The Ideal Candidate

We are seeking a passionate professional with a completion of grade twelve (SSFD) with a minimum of one (1) year of library experience and two (2) years in a customer-oriented setting. Additional post-secondary coursework in public librarianship is considered an asset.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills. We are seeking an individual with computer proficiency is MS Office skills, a demonstrated ability to work without direct supervision and display sound judgement and decision making, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment and foster effective working relationships.

The successful candidate for Assistant, Public Service will be required to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends in the office.

This position offers an hourly rate of $29.14.

Satisfactory passing of a vulnerable sector check and proof of qualifications will be required of any successful candidate(s) for this position.
