- Restore and conserve museum and gallery artifacts
- Supervise technicians, assistants, students or interns, staff or volunteers
- Examine artifacts and determine the most appropriate method of restoration
- Research origins and history of artifacts
- Develop storyline and theme of displays and exhibitions
- Provide advice on display and storage of artifacts to insure proper maintenance and preservation
- Co-ordinate the storage of collections and setting-up of displays and exhibitions
- Provide consultation to museums, art galleries or private individuals
- Oversee the conservation, display and circulation of collections
- Research new conservation and restoration techniques
- Operate audio-visual equipment
- Study artifacts (objects and structures) to reconstruct past economic, social, political and intellectual life
- Conduct research into one or more phases or aspects of past human activity and interpret and document findings
- Assist in the restoration and conservation of artifacts under the direction of a conservator
- Assist in the research, handling and storage of artifacts
- Assist with the planning and development of travelling exhibitions and special events
- Classify and assign registration numbers to artifacts and supervise inventory control
- Construct displays and dioramas, build models, install artifacts in displays and prepare artifacts for storage and shipping
- Fabricate custom frames, measure and cut mats, mat enhancements and glass, and mount paintings, photographs and other art work
- Conduct guided tours of museums, gallery exhibitions and historical, heritage and other sites, answer inquiries and provide information
