The Crime Victim Assistance Program provides financial assistance, information and services to victims of crime, immediate family members and eligible witnesses to assist in their financial and psychological recovery from the effects of a crime. This position resides within the Crime Victim Assistance Program, Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General, and reports to the Claims Coordinator Team Lead, CVAP.

The Claims Coordinator is responsible for facilitating appropriate adjudications through information gathering, investigating, interviewing and obtaining detailed information from claimants, service providers, and others arising from applications submitted under the Crime Victim Assistance Act. The Claims Coordinator is also responsible for taking an active role in coordinating appropriate community responses to meet a variety of needs arising as a result of victimization and for managing long-term benefit claims within the parameters of legislation, regulation, and policies governing the program.

Job Requirements:

Education and Experience (which could include Volunteer or Practicum Work)

  • 1 year experience working with victims of crime and/or vulnerable people;
    (vulnerable people to include but not limited to; victims, marginalized party or those that face social injustices related to race, ethnicity, poverty, gender, sexual orientation, age, language, physical or mental health etc.)
  • Experience working with justice system personnel (e.g. Crown Counsel, police, probation) and/or social service organizations; and
  • Experience collaborating and coordinating services for clients with government and/or other service organizations.


Preference may be given to applicants with:

  • The completion of post-secondary education (degree, diploma, certificate) in a related field (e.g. Criminology, social work, psychology).
