Student Labourer, Parks & Property
Term, May 1st – August 27th ($20.06/hr. for 35-40 hours/week)

Applicants for Student Labourer must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • At the time of the interview, candidates must be enrolled in a full-time post-secondary or other
educational program and be returning in a full-time capacity September 2023. The City of
Pickering will accept any of the following to verify enrolment in college or university: 
Registrar’s letter confirming enrolment and academic eligibility for the next semester. 
Letter or screen shot confirming your anticipated graduation date. 
Letter or screen shot indicating that you have more credits left to complete in your current

degree. 
Letter or screen shot confirming your application to a program next term/semester at a post-

secondary education establishment.

  • Preference will be given to qualified students who are residents, or whose parents or legal
guardians are residents, within the corporate limits of the City of Pickering, however, this is not to
exempt students from other municipalities from applying to these positions.
  • Must possess a valid “G” or “G2” Class Ontario Driver’s Licence at the time of submitting their
application, and be prepared to provide consent to conduct a Driver’s Abstract as a condition of
employment.
  • Must be available to work the entire duration.

Student Labourers, Parks & Property are responsible for performing maintenance duties on City
owned parklands and property. Typical duties include cutting grass, assisting with maintenance and
repairs, planting and maintenance of horticulture displays, and operating light machinery and power
tools.

Note: Preference will be given to applicants with related experience and the ability to operate light
machinery, and/or who are currently enrolled in a Horticulture or Forestry related program.
