This is supervisory operational and technical work performed in a multi-use recreation facility including an arena. The incumbent plans, assigns, schedules, checks, supervises and participates in the work of subordinates engaged in such activities as equipment maintenance, janitorial, security, refrigeration and ice making tasks; trains new employees; hires auxiliary staff, and participates in the hiring of new staff; performs a variety of operational routine maintenance and repair duties relative to heating, ventilating, air conditioning, and ice making equipment, and related support systems; checks system component operation; lubricates and cleans equipment; makes necessary repairs and/or adjustments to a variety of equipment such as electric motors, pumps, compressors and related equipment; performs a variety of minor plumbing, electrical, painting and carpentry repairs such as changing washers, building shelves and touch up painting; coordinates and schedules the provision of equipment maintenance and janitorial services for the facility which includes fixed, stationary and mobile equipment, including refrigeration plant equipment; establishes and maintains preventative maintenance schedules for both building and equipment such as repair of pipes, and upkeep of Zamboni; assists in the coordination and facilitation of building maintenance through a supervisor and physical plant maintenance; prepares budget estimates for building, janitorial, and equipment and staff requirements and implements budget upon approval; monitors expenditures and advises supervisor of potential cost over-runs, recommends corrective action as required. Performs related work as required.

Qualifications include up to high school graduation supplemented by completion of technical courses in ice making and refrigeration, plus sound related experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable knowledge of the methods, materials and equipment used in ice making and refrigeration operations; the functions and operations of a multi-use facility including stationary, fixed, and mobile equipment. Ability to coordinate and schedule the provision of equipment maintenance and janitorial services, and ice making work and to establish and maintain preventative maintenance programmes; prepare budget estimates for janitorial and equipment requirements, implements budgets upon approval; monitor expenditures and to advise supervisor of potential cost over-runs, and recommend corrective action as required; prepare purchase requisitions for janitorial and equipment supplies and other facility equipment and parts within defined limits and to maintain an inventory of same. Skill in the use and care of equipment and tools used in the work. A valid Driver’s Licence as required by the British Columbia Motor Vehicle Act, Designated St. John's First-Aid Certificate or equivalent, and Refrigeration Operator’s Certificate are required.
