POSITION SUMMARY

Employees of the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia (Assembly) provide professional non-partisan services to support the democratic institution of Parliament and its members through procedural advice, administrative support and information services. The Assembly is an autonomous employer, separate from the administrative framework of B.C. government ministries and agencies.

The Sergeant-at-Arms department is seeking six professional, experienced and motivated individuals for the regular full-time position of Protective Services Safety Officer.

Reporting to the Sergeant, Protective Service Safety Officers ensure the safety and security of the LABC and are responsible for carrying out approved plans and security measures to ensure the protection of Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs), VIP’s, employees, the public and property, and the preservation of peace and order within the Legislative Precinct.

QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must be/have:

  • Experience in communicating effectively and interacting in a tactful, professional, and courteous manner with various office staff and the public.
  • Must possess valid first aid or be willing to obtain it.
  • Must successfully complete enhanced security screening.
  • Must be willing and able to work shift work, including evenings, weekends, and holidays within a 24/7 operation.
  • Required to work outside in all weather conditions.


Preference may be given to candidates with the following:

  • Recent experience as a volunteer auxiliary or reserve constable, a sheriff, a corrections officer, or a special provincial constable or special municipal constable would be considered an asset Please refer to the position description for a full list of duties and qualifications.
