Guest Services Attendant – DesBrisay Museum

(Term position: 8-16 weeks)

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Guest Services Attendant will provide front desk visitor services and gift shop sales. The position also assists with basic collection management, exhibit development and archival research at DesBrisay Museum. This position will support the Engagement Coordinator with the delivery and creation of promotional products for summer events, including Canada Day, and heritage skill programs. Additionally, the role involves developing small in-house exhibits, panel displays, and online content that celebrates the heritage & cultural of our community.

Key Qualifications:

Education/ Experience:

· Experience or education in the fields of community development, planning, marketing, exhibit production, theatre, communications, or related field is desire

Skills

· Good communication skills, especially writing and reading comprehension

· Customer service skills

· Familiar with local culture, including an interest in regions history and heritage

· Strong work ethic and positive team attitude

Ability:

· Communicate effectively both orally and in writing

· Able to work directly with public and support inquiries

· Effective time management and able to prioritize tasks effectively

· Work well under pressure while maintaining customer service

· Maintain a rapport with diverse stakeholders, patrons, volunteers, and the public

· Self-starter that functions effectively independently

· Team player that is a pro-active problem solver and generates ideas

Terms and Conditions of Employment:

  • Non-union
  • Full time (35 hours per week, variable schedule). Days of work Tuesday to Saturday, with variable hours to be negotiated with supervisor. Regularly scheduled hours require weekend work and may be required to work evenings.
  • This is a 8-16-week position (May 1- August 19, 2023). Please note the employment dates are based on grant approval and can be shifted to suit candidate’s needs (example: school schedule.)
  • Location of work: 130 Jubilee Street, Bridgewater, Nova Scotia (DesBrisay Museum)

  • Wage: $15.00/hr
