Nova Scotia Provincial Housing Agency (NSPHA) is the provincial government agency responsible for the administration and delivery of affordable housing solutions for low-income Nova Scotians.

We accomplish this by working closely with other levels of government as well as private and community partners.

Across its districts, NSPHA provides more than 11,200 safe, affordable homes as part of its Housing Services to seniors and families. District offices manage the day-to-day operations of Nova Scotia’s housing stock. Their responsibilities include administering tenant applications and placements, collecting rent, resolving tenant issues, and maintaining and repairing properties.

About Our Opportunity

Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, Grounds Person is to provide grounds care services while adhering to the standards and practices established by Nova Scotia Provincial Housing Agency. This includes maintenance of the grounds to provide safe and visual appealing property surroundings.

Primary Accountabilities

  • Maintain a high standard of cleanliness, orderliness and safety in the assigned area(s).
  • Ensure that exteriors and public entrances are safe and clean.
  • Paint parking lots, sheds, railings, foundations, basements, fences.
  • Perform winter snow and ice clearance duties such as but not limited to, salting or shovelings of snow from steps, landings, emergency exits, ramps and walkways as assigned.
  • Operate motorized equipment such as snow blowers, small tractors, lawn mowers, salt spreaders, etc.
  • Prepare soil, plants flowerbeds, trees, bushes etc., prunes trees and shrubs, grass cutting, hedge trimming, and other general landscaping duties as required.
  • Complete work orders and material requisitions as required.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Grade 12 or high school equivalent plus two years’ related experience.
  • Ability to operate equipment and tools related to ground maintenance appropriately and safely.
  • Knowledge of occupational health and safety.
  • Ability to perform tasks in a safe manner according to the Department of Labour and Advanced Education and CBIHA safety standards and policies.
  • Possess interpersonal skills to deal with co-workers, tenants, contractors and vendors, other departments, and the public in a positive, tactful, courteous and cooperative manner.
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision, as well as in a team environment.
  • Possess a valid Nova Scotia driver’s license with access to a reliable vehicle for work purposes.

Assets

  • Possess current Emergency First Aid and WHMIS certifications.
