The Royal Saskatchewan Museum (RSM) requires an energetic team player with a positive attitude, strong work ethic and excellent communication skills for a part-time Gallery Interpreter position. This position will work approximately 70% of full-time hours and will work a set shift of 9:15am-5:15pm, every Thursday -Saturday, and every second Wednesday.
The successful candidate will provide excellence in visitor experience providing visitor services and public programming to museum visitors. The successful candidate will need to be able to work with all ages of visitors within a busy, ever-changing environment and to physically guide tour groups and lead programming activities.
Key duties will include:
  • Visitor reception duties; welcoming and orienting visitors to the museum;
  • Delivering programs for school workshops and the general public;
  • Supervising galleries and public facilities and ensuring visitors observe rules of behavior and provincial health protocols;
  • Opening and closing the museum on a daily basis.
The successful candidate will have a general knowledge of Saskatchewan's natural history and/or First Nations cultures and/or geology/paleontology as well as an understanding of educational or interpretive practices. Typically, this level of knowledge is obtained through some post-secondary education in Biology, Environmental Studies, Indigenous Studies, Paleontology/Geology, Museum Studies, Education or equivalent, and experience in a museum setting or other public programming setting. Customer service training and experience are also considered great assets.
