About Kids Developmental Services

Kids Developmental Services (KDS) is a community-based private Early Childhood Services operator funded by Alberta Education. We provide early childhood education to children between the ages of 2 years 8 months and 4 years 8 months. Programming is developmentally appropriate and occurs in the child's natural environment. Alberta Certificated Teachers coordinate the child's team which may include a Developmental Assistant, Speech-Language Pathologist, Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist, Psychologist, Behaviour Consultant, and/or a Family Support Specialist.

Certificated Teachers write the child's Individualized Program Plan (IPP) and accommodations and strategies are provided by the therapists on the child's team. Additional programming is offered in the child's home, in community play groups and online.

Position Details

We are seeking enthusiastic, dynamic and passionate Developmental Assistants for our early childhood intervention programs in Calgary. Developmental Assistants provide daily support to assigned children under the direction of a certificated teacher (Educational Coordinator). Working in collaboration with the Educational Coordinator, Early Education Team, child's family, as well as their preschool or child care centre, the Developmental Assistant implements IPP goals to meet the identified and individual needs of each child.

Responsibilities and required skills include (but are not limited to)

  • Implementing developmentally appropriate activities, strategies, and accommodations to address IPP goals in the child's natural and play-based environment;
  • Providing support to children during community play sessions, programming in the home, and online, if required;
  • Working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and taking direction from team members;
  • Documenting children's progress.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • A minimum grade twelve diploma is required. Post-secondary education in a related field e.g. Education Assistant, ECE Level 1, 2 or 3; or equivalent work experience is preferred;
  • Experience and compassion working with children with diverse learning needs is preferred;
  • First Aid and CPR certification is an asset;
  • Two professional and one personal reference is required;
  • Current Police Clearance and Vulnerable Sector check;
  • A valid driver's license and reliable vehicle;
  • A willingness to travel between locations.
