C-FER works with the global energy industry to advance safety, environmental performance and efficiency with full-scale testing and specialized engineering consulting services. InnoTech Alberta offers a range of science, engineering and technological research talent and testing capabilities, and the facilities that can help accelerate technology development serving both the private and public sector.

Alberta Innovates is seeking a Technology Development Advisor (TDA) to join our Entrepreneurial Investments team. TDAs play an exciting role in Alberta’s innovation ecosystem by engaging, advising, and coaching scalable Technology and knowledge based Small and Medium Size Enterprises (SMEs) in the areas of business, product development and commercialization activities. The TDA is a connector who creates links between business support services, professionals and programs from the Provincial and Federal Government, Colleges, Universities, non-profits and industry contacts. This position will be based in Edmonton and provide services to Edmonton and Northern Alberta.

Intrigued? Here’s some more information about the position:
The TDA will foster existing relationships and spend time cultivating new ones while proactively connecting the dots; act as a coach, and navigator for SMEs to access Alberta’s Innovation System programs and support services; and seek out innovative SMEs to address Alberta’s Innovation targets.
Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
Advising and providing expertise to the client from committing to scaling along the Startup Commons client journey. This may include expertise on business plan development, financials, marketing, and sales, including customer validation testing.
Coaching the client through their business and technology readiness journey
Developing external networks and liaising with internal and external clients to recommend funding opportunities aligned with Alberta Innovates mandate and outcomes
Summarizing client due diligence for internal programs while maintaining confidentiality of client information
Working synergistically with the Regional Innovation Networks for the benefit of the client
Providing services mainly to clients in Edmonton and Northern Alberta

Qualifications;
A bachelor’s degree from a recognized institution.
10+ years in business, manufacturing or production setting, management consulting or founding a technology based SME
5 + years in senior management and/or business coaching experience
Continuing education related to business and entrepreneurship
Experience with growing and developing SMEs in the technology commercialization space
Strong account management experience combined with a creative approach to business
Able to work under tight deadlines in high-stake executive environments
Exceptional interpersonal skills, combined with an ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders
Demonstrated coaching, constructive feedback, and mentoring skills
Willingness to challenge, question and investigate facts
Strong community network to support building collaboration and build synergies
Comfortable working with incomplete information and ability to make intelligent assumptions to produce high level estimates
Travel is required to provide services to Northern Alberta
