Full Description

The Sponsorship Development Officer is responsible for marketing and administering the sponsorship program on behalf of the City of Winnipeg. The Sponsorship Development Officer is required to consult with departments and agencies, as well as Councillors, to determine eligible assets for sponsorship. In addition to records management of the assets and developing sell sheets to attract suitable sponsors, the Officer will promote the sponsor program as a whole.

As the Sponsorship Development Officer you will:

  • Build the sponsorship program by actively marketing it and developing relationships to increase awareness
  • Market sponsor-specific opportunities by identifying key eligible assets and suitable businesses to increase revenue
  • Manage sponsor relations by maintaining open lines of communication in order to renew agreements
  • Administer the sponsorship program by coordinating with all stakeholders to ensure continued growth of the program

Your education and qualifications include:

  • Bachelors degree in Commerce with a background in sponsorship acquisition, sales, and/or marketing
  • A diploma in Business Administration or Creative Communications with 4 years experience in sales or sponsor acquisition may be considered.
  • Three years experience in sales or sponsorship with emphasis on customer relations and negotiation
  • Experience in full cycle contract administration, preferred
  • Knowledge of the current sponsorship industry, trends, and valuations
  • Knowledge of creative design and advertising standards
  • Knowledge of regulations related to donations, sponsorships, and naming rights
  • Knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite
  • Knowledge of budget preparation, financial forecasting, and cost benefit analysis.
  • Excellent conflict management and negotiation skills
  • Excellent presentation skills with the ability to present information on behalf of the City of Winnipeg in a creative and professional manner in accordance with internal policies and procedures
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain professional relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong computer skills with the ability to utilize various functions within the Microsoft Office Suite of applications
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and carry out duties and responsibilities under limited supervision
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and results-oriented environment
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple competing projects and relationships
  • Strong political acumen with the ability to apply good judgment in politically sensitive situations
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to develop detailed financial spreadsheets

  • The successful applicant must maintain legal eligibility to work in Canada. If the successful applicant possesses a work permit, it is their responsibility to ensure the permit remains valid.
  • Must possess a valid Class 5 Manitoba Driver’s License and access to a vehicle
