The Ministry of Energy and Resources develops, co-ordinates, and implements policies and programs to promote the growth and responsible development of the province’s natural resources. The Ministry operates as the primary regulatory authority for the oil and gas industry and ensures competitive royalty systems, regulations and policies for all natural resource sectors. The Ministry also plays an important role in promoting Saskatchewan’s diverse resource potential.

The Ministry is seeking a dynamic and innovative individual to join the Strategic Planning and Initiatives Branch as a Senior Policy Analyst for a term position of nine months or more.

Reporting to the Director of Strategic Initiatives, the successful candidate will:

  • Provide expert analysis and advice in support of effective government decision making including scoping and executing research, establishing viable quantitative models, contributing to the preparation of Cabinet documents, and delivering clear, concise briefing communications.
  • Proactively identify competitiveness issues and opportunities then develop strategies and action plans for advancing opportunities or resolving issues. This includes writing discussion papers, preparing and delivering presentations, and framing options for decision makers.
  • Contribute to the development of policy and strategies to collaboratively advance the Ministry’s mandate. This includes working constructively through committees or bi-lateral engagements with industry, consumer groups, research institutes, and other government departments at the municipal, provincial, federal and international levels.

The candidate of choice will have knowledge of policy, legislation, planning, and risk management. Foundational to this knowledge is experience in public sector policy development and government decision-making processes.

The successful candidate will be an innovative problem solver, possess excellent writing and communication skills, and have the demonstrated ability to develop and maintain professional relationships and partnerships with external and internal stakeholders. The candidate of choice will have a proven track record of building consensus through collaboration and the ability to plan and organize multiple complex tasks and projects while considering conflicting and changing priorities.

The successful candidate will possess a Master’s degree or Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, Public Policy or Commerce together with extensive experience in policy, planning and economic development.

Hours of Work : A - SGEU Office 36 - one day off every two weeks
