Senior Manager Corporate Relations
The Alberta Innovates Marketing and Communications team is seeking a Senior Manager Corporate Relations for corporate outreach and engagement plans that support the CEO and leadership team in advancing enterprise business development, capital attraction and industry partnerships.

Working closely with colleagues across the corporation and reaching into relevant peer-group networks, this role identifies and secures opportunities; prepares plans, speeches, presentations, and advance briefing materials for business and investor audiences; and maintains multi-contact outreach with corporate leaders and influencers of the innovation system. The successful incumbent will:

Act as the CEO’s principal speechwriter and collaborate with senior leaders and subject experts to prepare remarks, presentations, key messages, and related materials for local, national, and international forums
Research audiences, business forums, conferences, and related events to grow our network of contacts, to identify and secure high value corporate opportunities, and to prepare appropriate executives and corporate subject experts to participate
Proactively develop and support communications to advance the expertise, knowledge, and impact of company thought leaders, and generate support for programs, and initiatives with business and policy influencers, decisionmakers, and community leaders
Cultivate and expand the corporation’s business network regionally and deepen relationships through peer-to-peer contact with sector-leading firms
Work closely with directors, and program experts to prepare accurate and timely input on behalf of the corporation to business and industry policy consultation processes, reports, and issues; ensure relevant staff are well-briefed on corporate market developments
Communicate the organizations financial story, differentiating characteristics and growth aspects of organizational initiatives and work closely with colleagues to prepare and publicize regional and related studies and benchmarking reports
Collaborate with external consultants and internal colleagues to establish and maintain a scanning process to identify emerging ESG issues, assess impacts and mitigate reputation risks
Conduct key stakeholder “listening” and analysis process, encompassing client and omnibus research, digital and social data, media, brand trust and other tools to fully leverage brand campaigns and ecosystem co-marketing
Maintain plans and processes to enable best practice crisis response capability, communication skills and capacity, and to assure mobilization readiness
Develop and facilitate engagement with impact investors, and mobilize employees and partners around initiatives that increase ecosystem participation of under-represented segments of the innovation community
Work with corporate colleagues, subsidiaries and business divisions to transform single program transactional engagements into community value/asset-based relationships

Qualifications and skills we are looking for:
Undergraduate degree in Business, Law, Political Science, Communications, Journalism, or equivalent experience
A graduate business degree is preferred
8 years of multi-sector business communications experience with 5 years experience in corporate relations or public advocacy communications
Professional certification from CPRS, IABC, IAP2, CIRI, ICD (or in process)
Solid understanding of business innovation trends, dynamics, ecosystem players, competitive priorities, challenges, social purpose movement, opportunities and capital flow
Knowledge of business fundamentals, investor relations, and financial interpretation
Established business networks
Ability to establish rapport and high trust relationships with leaders at all levels
Understand sustainability trends, ESG standards, and best practices
Comfortable in front of a crowd and working with people in all sectors and organizational levels
Experience in sourcing and managing superior service suppliers
Demonstrated ability to activate strategies through tactics
Awareness of government policy agenda and expectations related to the provincial innovation ecosystem and Alberta Innovates
Strong relationship management skills that build effective networks of internal and external business contacts
Excellent communication, presentation, facilitation, negotiation, conflict resolution and interpersonal skills
Superior speechwriting, corporate communication and editing skills, and business media savvy
Exceptional public research and analytical skills
Innovative thinker able to synthesize and translate scientific knowledge to business language
