Job Purpose:

The Senior Analyst plays a key role in providing finance and operational support to Canadian Commercial Banking and Canadian Banking Finance, contributing to the business line’s strategic direction and results as well as to the integrity of the business line financials, systems and reporting. The position supports the Director, Business Banking, CB Finance in the following areas:

  • Financial planning, forecasting and reporting for the full P&L
  • Month-end, Quarter-end and Year-end reporting and analysis of business line results
  • Development of financial models and reporting packages for planning, tracking and reporting on business line performance and various initiatives
  • Expense management, processing and ongoing monitoring and reporting on all expenses
  • Competitive analysis, ad hoc projects and administrative requirements
  • Stakeholder management within the business line, finance and support functions


In fulfilling the role, the incumbent must work with the various leaders within Commercial Business Lines (Commercial Distribution, Real Estate Banking and Roynat), Canadian Banking Finance and other internal partners. In addition, the incumbent will also participate in various projects.


Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

Planning and forecasting:

  • Create annual Profit Plans and forecasts and monitor P&L to ensure budget compliance
  • Provide accurate forecasts by carefully observing trends in Balance Sheet and P&L, and liaise with the filed and partners
  • Identifying drivers, solve concerns and summarize and provide commentary and recommendations to business line and finance leadership teams
  • Work closely with stakeholders in business line, finance and partners to ensure effective and timely execution


Financial analysis, review and tracking of business line results:

  • Assist in bluebook, KPIs and all monthly and quarterly reporting and dashboards
  • Produce reports which compare actual vs. plan volumes, revenue, margins, expenses
  • Provide analysis and tracking of support and allocated business line expenses
  • Review the submissions for reasonability and work with partners in providing accurate data and proper explanations


Expense management and controls:

  • Track Non Interest Expenses across all business lines at the transit level
  • Research, explore and identify alternatives to maximize benefits and increase revenues while minimizing costs
  • Design and create management reports to provide a clear and precise picture and recommendations on budget usage and variance on a regular basis for effective expense control and decision making
  • Ensure expenses are in accordance with the Bank’s policies and guidelines
  • Manage, monitor and report on complement and overruns to ensure plan targets are met


Perform ad hoc projects and manage relationships with key stakeholders:

  • Cultivate and manage relationships within the business line, partners and support functions to provide top-notch support to all activities and initiatives
  • Evaluate and recommend alternates to meet initiative objectives and deadlines while improving efficiencies and enhancing collaboration


Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? - We'd love to work with you if you have:

  • A minimum of 5 years experience in a related position with strong knowledge in managerial accounting and financial management
  • Very strong in Excel, PowerPoint and Word and the Bank’s accounting/finance systems such as OBI, Hyperion, Smartstream
  • Attention to detail with superior analytical and presentation skills
  • Proactive with strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong process management, planning and organization skills to facilitate teamwork and coordinate execution of multiple deliverables
  • A good understanding of the Bank’s established processes, policies and guidelines around financial accounting and financial management
  • Flexibility is required to adapt to a wide variety of tasks & functions with changing demands
  • A high level of curiosity, energy, commitment and strong sense of teamwork are needed to be successful in the role
