Full Description

Responsibilities

  • Review, interpret, quantify, and analyze the work described in technical specification documents, construction plans, regulations, and drawings
  • Produce labour, material and subcontractor price estimates for all required work.
  • Develop material take-offs based on drawing review
  • Solicit, collect and analyze subcontractor/vendor quotations associated with assigned proposal
  • Provide comparison of cost to perform work in house versus utilization of subcontractors
  • Attend pre-bid site visits as required.
  • Present estimated costs, risks, and opportunities to management during the final review of assigned estimates
  • Estimate cost of change orders as required
  • Analyze past project data to determine proper equipment and labour requirements
  • Assess risk factors and determine any potential costs and contingencies for bidding purposes
  • Collaborate with engineering team and estimating manager to generate plans and technical proposal details needed to create accurate cost estimates and compliant proposals.
  • Develop detailed itemized listing of required work tasks based on review of bid request.
  • Develop long lead and critical material list as required
  • Assist with proposal preparations as required
  • Review of Government and private industry tenders, specifications, and drawings on routine basis
  • Project quoting, planning, management, completion and engineering on a variety of shipbuilding, hydropower, fabrication, welding, environmental remediation, and machining projects
  • Scheduling and assigning manpower and managing subcontractor performance in an effort to deliver projects on budget & on-time
  • Day to day job tracking and discovery
  • Enhancing estimating processes by making estimating procedure more efficient
  • Attend site visits and prepare documentation, including but not limited to estimates, tenders, bonds, EOI, LOI, RFP, RFQ, etc.
  • Reviewing and updating company Policies, Processes and Communications
  • Lead and communicate with staff, customers, and other support departments to ensure delivery of estimates on-time and on budget

Requirements

  • Must have minimum five years of related experience in Marine Construction/Repair and Welding Estimation
  • Experience with government procurement RFQs and contracts considered a strong asset
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office skill level
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common technical specifications and drawings
  • Ability to travel occasionally to complete site visits

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $25.00-$38.00 per hour
