This is technical mapping work in the preparation and maintenance of Municipal base, legal, and utility servicing maps, and in recording and computing related non-graphic data using computer assisted techniques and equipment, such as CAD, GIS, and Esri Field Maps software. The Mapping Technician 2 researches, compiles, analyzes, edits and enters spatial and attribute data; prepares drawings and maps of varying scale for a variety of Parks projects such as Park Assets for Parks Operations using various CAD/GIS software packages and tools as well as Esri Field Maps; plots maps of various sizes, scales, and process requests for reports or spatial analysis to assist staff; makes recommendations regarding the development, alteration or improvement of workflow processes, procedures, or techniques to better meet Municipal requirements for asset management and CAD/GIS mapping standards and procedures. Other duties include QA/QC review of drawings and Parks infrastructure assets to ensure spatial accuracy and quality of data to adhere to City of Burnaby CAD/GIS standards and procedures. The Mapping Technician 2 acts as a project leader on assigned mapping, exercises considerable independence of judgement and action in performing assignments and discusses or refers more difficult or unusual problems to a supervisor who reviews work performance in terms of quality of services rendered and adherence to established practices and procedures. Part of this role involves going out into the field to collect Parks asset data. Performs related work as required.

Qualifications include completion of Grade 12 supplemented by courses in computerized mapping at an Institute of Technology, plus considerable related Municipal mapping experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable knowledge of computer assisted mapping techniques, procedures and materials and mapping principles. Sound knowledge of the departmental policies, procedures, practices, rules and regulations related to the work performed. Working knowledge of coordinate geometry and survey computations as related to the work performed. Ability to research, compile, enter, analyze and assemble geographic and associated geographic-based data using an automated mapping system; to operate a variety of equipment used in computerized mapping; to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts; to represent the department on intradepartmental subcommittees. Skill in the use of a graphics work station and related computer equipment. Valid BC Driver’s License preferred.
