Manitoba Youth Centre (MYC) is currently searching for a Health Services Manager. This environment is highly autonomous and requires nursing staff to work independently and in consultation with the on-call physician. The successful candidates will have the ability to make critical decisions, utilize standards of practice, policy and procedure as well as access
resources while working alone. This is a challenging, fast paced environment providing a unique experience not seen in traditional nursing roles.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Nursing Licensure in good standing with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM) or the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses Association of Manitoba (CRPNM).
  • Satisfactory; Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Security Check, Satisfactory Child Abuse Registry Check, Satisfactory Adult Abuse Registry Check.
  • Satisfactory Internal Security Check.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Health Care Provider Certification
  • Satisfactory Certificate of Medical Fitness.

Qualifications:
Essential:

  • Extensive Nursing experience in a Health Services Field.
  • Knowledge of current nursing theory and practice with the ability to plan and direct specialized nursing services within a medical unit.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with experience creating and maintaining positive working relationships with staff within the medical unit, and with external agencies.
  • Knowledge of the criminal justice system, its legislation and the practices related specifically to medical services.
  • Experience working effectively in a team environment.
  • Experience with staff supervision in a healthcare environment.
  • Experience in crisis intervention and emergency.
  • Strong written communication skills.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.

Desired:
  • Experience in Psychiatric Services.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous culture/traditions.

Duties:
The incumbent will be a member of the health care team reporting to the Health Services Director. The incumbent will coordinate the total health care services of a multi-disciplinary Medical Unit including development, implementation and evaluation of services. Duties include direct supervision and performance management, professional development of nursing staff, development and delivery of health related and core correctional programs to youth, staff training, team building and promotion of client centered services. Occasional assistance to other nurses in the delivery of front line services may be required from time to time. As a member of the medical team, the incumbent must be able to work with considerable independence and without direct supervision. Some weekend and shift work will be required.
