ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Based at the Macassa Mine Site, we currently have an exciting opportunity for an Environmental Technician to join our Environmental team.


The Macassa Mine is a high-grade gold producer, with grade improving at depth, and a key valuation driver for Agnico Eagle. Located in the Town of Kirkland Lake, Ontario, the Macassa Mine remains one of the highest gold grade mines in the world. Macassa commenced operations in 2002, and with the discovery of the South Mine Complex has been able to increase its level of production significantly over the past five years. The mine is located in an area with well-developed infrastructure, including a provincial highway, a railway system and a private airport. High-grade ore is processed at the Macassa Mill, which currently has available capacity and is located in close proximity to the mine.


The Environmental Technician will be responsible for working within the team completing a variety of both office and field work.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Work as part of the Macassa Mine Environmental team
  • Participate in fieldwork requirement initiatives (various types of sampling, bottle inventory, QA/QC, chains of custody, monitoring, and inspections)
  • Utilize various types of equipment (hand held monitors, loggers, etc), maintain and calibrate as required
  • Conduct environmental monitoring as per the statutory requirements of the relevant Mine Management Plan (MMP), Waste Discharge Licence (WDL) and other statutory requirements as necessary.
  • Assist in the preparation of statutory reports on environmental performance as required in the WDL and MMPs.
  • Maintenance of monitoring/sampling works and reporting schedule to ensure that all regulatory requirements and business commitments are met.
  • Database maintenance and reporting data to statutory bodies.
  • Assist in providing environmental advice notifications to site supervisors and managers.
  • Assist with the liaison with the community and key stakeholders
  • Support the team and assist with additional requests as needed
  • Travel to other sites as required
  • Other duties from time to time

QUALIFICATIONS

Our ideal candidate has:

  • Education relevant to Environmental preferred (college diploma or university degree)
  • valid Drivers license, G, in good standing
  • Knowledge of light-duty all terrain vehicle operation an asset
  • Computer skills – Microsoft Suite and database understanding
  • Previous relevant experience preferred
  • Good time management and multi-tasking abilities
  • Good communication skills
  • Able to work in inclement weather conditions, sometimes with minimal to no supervision
  • Able to manage schedule independently
  • Physically fit/able (lifting up to 50 lbs is common in this position)
