Overview of the Role The work assignment will involve several aspects of heavy civil construction including estimating and operations. The work term will be split between the office located at 140 Renfrew drive in Markham assisting the estimating team as well as job sites assisting the project team with the execution of jobs and site supervision.
Responsibilities
Review tender documents, plans and specifications
Prepare detailed quantity take-offs
Referencing historical costs and prepare detailed estimates on all components of a project using estimating software
Solicit and receive quotes from suppliers and subcontractors and coordinate with them for execution of jobs
Obtain field measurements for preparing quotations
Track project costs and production rate
Assist forepersons and superintendents in their daily tasks
Assist in maintaining compliance with contract requirements and specifications
Assist in project planning and scheduling
Requirements:
Working towards an undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering with a university that allows 16 month co-op
Ability to work on construction sites while monitoring the crews
Mathematical aptitude to understand drawings and obtain measurements
Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office with ability to learn estimating software
Effective oral and written communication skills
Good attention to detail and critical thinking skills to recognize and resolve discrepancies
Ability to work independently and organize activities to meet deadlines valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle and willingness to travel daily as project assignments may change
Willing to work flexible hours, including weekends and nights, as determined by demanding construction schedules
