Position Summary
  • Please note, this is a full-time opportunity for up to eight (8) months best suited for an Engineering or Engineering Technology student.
The City of Regina’s Traffic branch is recruiting casual employees for its seasonal traffic counting program. Reporting to the Project Engineer or Construction Programming Coordinator, specific responsibilities including installing traffic counting devices, conducting manual traffic counts, sign inventory, analyzing collected data, updating databases, creating reports and charts, and using the data to respond to inquiries from staff and the public. Gain entry-level experience in the engineering industry while knowing your work is instrumental to the various facets of work throughout our city. Duties & Responsibilities
Program, install, and remove various traffic counting devices according to data collection requirements.
Perform manual traffic data collection as required.
Update and manage sign inventory.
Operate and troubleshoot the uploading & downloading of data using traffic data collection software.
Co-ordinate with colleagues to effectively and efficiently implement programs.
Review and assess data for accuracy and completeness.
Create reports from data using specialized software and Microsoft Excel application.
Perform calculations and queries in a spreadsheet and database environments.
Compiles elementary statistics from field notes and related information.
Cares for and safeguards survey equipment during field operations.
Follow all rules and regulations as set out in the Provincial Occupational Health and Safety Act and the City of Regina Occupation Health and Safety Manual.
Performs related work as required.
Education & Experience

Candidates will be screened on the following criteria:

The knowledge, skills and abilities for this position are typically obtained through a one (1) year certificate in Civil Engineering technology or an educational equivalent; or senior matriculation and a minimum of one (1) year's related experience in a municipal engineering environment. A combination of education and experience may be considered.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of principles, theories and practices related to transportation engineering.
Skills and knowledge in the use of hand and power tools.
Demonstrated skills working both independently and as a member of a team on a complex task.
Intermediate computer skills to create tables and forms, create formulas, create queries and reports and import/export data from various sources and formats.
Ability to perform work that requires continuous concentration/focusing on areas or objects for long periods, with limited freedom of movement.
Ability to perform work that requires a moderate level of physical effort and/or dexterity.
Skills to manage time and perform tasks in a well-organized manner.
Skills to express ideas effectively, in oral and written form.
Skills to establish and maintain effective working relations and a respectful work environment. Working/Other Conditions
Must possess a valid Class 5 driver's license.
Must be willing and able to perform work of a physical nature in field environments and inclement conditions.
Will be required to work from variable bases of operation.
May be required to work shift work and/or irregular hours.
