The NRC offers a unique environment to assess and mitigate challenging and complex conflict of interest and ethical issues and risks at the intersection of research, innovation, and business. NRC managers and employees seek conflict of interest and ethical decision-making services and guidance in a variety of workplace situations.


We are looking for a Conflict of Interest Officer to join the Values and Ethics team in the NRC’s Corporate Secretariat. As a Conflict of Interest Officer in the Values and Ethics team, you will report to the Manager, Values and Ethics. You will work closely with talented colleagues in conflict of interest, research ethics and integrity, and harassment prevention. The Conflict of Interest Officer would be someone who shares our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity. We need someone who is collaborative, curious, and analytical to provide guidance, training, assessments, and recommendations in the field of values and ethics to employees and managers of the NRC, in order to ensure an ethical and productive work environment.

Screening Criteria

Applicants must demonstrate within the content of their application that they meet the following screening criteria in order to be given further consideration as candidates:

Education

Requires a university degree in social sciences (business, psychology, law, economics, ethics, sociology), human resources management, labour relations, organizational development, or other discipline related to the duties of the position.


Equivalency based on a combination of education and experience would be considered.

Experience

1. Significant (2+ years) experience in communicating and collaborating with a variety of employee levels within an organization and building relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
2. Experience in providing advice, guidance and recommendations on complex issues to employees and management.
3. Experience in the delivery of training and awareness initiatives.
4. Experience in conducting research and analysis.
5. Experience in writing reports and briefing materials.

Assets
6. Experience working for an organizational values and ethics program.

Candidates will be assessed on the basis of the following criteria:

Technical Competencies

  • Knowledge of the NRC, its mandate, and the particular requirements of a research and innovation environment.
  • Solid understanding of the values and ethics policy framework and values and ethics issues in the Canadian public sector.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, including with senior managers, colleagues, and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to plan and execute on multiple projects and provide ongoing status updates.
  • Research, analytical, briefing, and writing skills.
  • Fluent technical skills in software such as Microsoft Office applications, virtual meeting and collaboration tools (e.g. MS Teams), and database management systems, and ability to learn new electronic tools.

Relocation

Relocation assistance will be determined in accordance with the NRC's directives.

Compensation

From $69,087 to $81,221 per annum.


In addition, the incumbent will receive the Bilingualism Bonus of $800 per year.
