This is clerical work of some variety and complexity involving responding to enquiries and requests regarding a variety of civic bylaws, particularly pertaining to parking or traffic, explaining reasons for violation notice issuance, policies, bylaws, payment structures, dispute processes, and taking and dispatching related complaints. A Clerk–Traffic also performs data entry and review of violation notices for completeness and accuracy; verifies claims of erroneous charges or payments; verifies information, fees and other documentation; and performs a variety of related clerical tasks, such as bylaw dispute adjudication functions including screening of violation notices and scheduling of hearings, liaising with external agencies, ordering and tracking equipment and supplies, maintaining the security and integrity of confidential documents or records, and preparing reports. Working under minimal supervision, an employee of this class exercises considerable independent judgement and action within defined limits, referring unusual problems to a supervisor while also overseeing the work of one or more auxiliary employees performing routine clerical tasks. Performs related work as required.

Qualifications include completion of Grade 12, including or supplemented by commercial courses plus sound related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Considerable knowledge of applicable policies, procedures, by-laws, rules and regulations; of modern office methods and procedures and business English, spelling, arithmetic and punctuation; and of the violation ticket system. Ability to deal courteously and effectively with the public, staff and external agencies in providing information and explaining procedures, by-laws, rules and regulations; to make decisions in accordance with applicable rules, policies and procedures and to perform assigned duties with minimal supervision; to assign and oversee the work of one or more auxiliary employees performing routine clerical tasks; to maintain files and records; and to compose routine correspondence and compile statistics. Skill in the use of computer software and standard office applications.

This is a Temporary Full Time opportunity until December 31, 2023.
