The Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) is Canada’s national law enforcement intelligence database. As a CPIC Information Specialist, you will be responsible for creating, maintaining, and ensuring the integrity of all records submitted to CPIC on behalf of Calgary Police Service (CPS). Primary duties include:
  • Research, organize, and distribute highly sensitive and confidential data from a multiple of computer databases to field personnel in a concise and timely manner.
  • Prepare comprehensive Prosecutor's Information Packages for an arrestee's appearance before the Justice of the Peace, or the documents required for Field Officer Release by the police/peace officers.
  • Evaluate, interpret, and coordinate the response to CPIC messages and requests to/from outside police, law enforcement and international agencies.
  • Maintain the National CPIC database with data entry, updates, and removals of existing records, based on guidelines and policies.
  • Organize, maintain, and share information (including warrants, court orders, release documents, restraining orders and occurrence reports to facilitate arrest and court processes) with partners such as courts, police officers, and law enforcement agencies across Canada.
  • Enter all warrants for arrest onto the Warrant Tracking Computer System and CPIC.
  • Ensure all records are accurate and immediately updated upon status changes.
  • Make sure all CPS entries on CPIC are current and accurately maintained by completing monthly validations and purge reports, and daily warrant recall lists from Criminal, Traffic and Youth courts.
Qualifications
  • A High School diploma or equivalency (i.e. GED) and at least 1 year of related experience in law enforcement or justice-based environment is required.
  • The ability to type at least 50 words per minute (wpm) is required.
  • Preference will be given to applicants that have CPIC experience and/or training or have administrative experience in a policing or related legal (court, criminal law, corrections) environment.
  • Knowledge and experience working with Sentry (Niche) or Justice On-Line Information Network (JOIN) are considered assets.
  • Success in this role requires: Exceptional communication skills, efficiency and thoroughness, focus on results, relationship building, service orientation, stress tolerance, team building, and teamwork.
Working Conditions: This position deals with emotionally troubling information/situations.

Compensation: Pay Grade 7 $33.33 – 44.60 per hour
Days of Work: This is a 24-hour, 7-day per week operation.
Position works an average of 40 hours per week over an
8-week cycle.

Hours of work: Non-Standard 40-hour work week
