The Nova Scotia Museum consisting of 28 museum sites, is the most decentralized museum in Canada. It is also one of the oldest provincial museums in the country. The Nova Scotia Museum is responsible for the provincial collection of over one million artifacts and specimens housed at museum sites and storage facilities across the province.

About Our Opportunity


The Museum of Natural History is seeking an outgoing, energetic, enthusiastic and team oriented, individual with exceptional communication and organizational skills to ensure excellence in retail and visitor services to clients and visitors.


The Clerk will assist with visitor services, admissions, shipping/receiving and reception duties for the Museum and Heritage Division, recording visitor statistics, maintaining current information on special orders, passes, discounts and special offers.

Primary Accountabilities


  • Assist with the coordination of facility rentals, promotional activities and special events and other duties as required.
  • Assist with researching, displaying, and maintaining inventory for resale products.
  • Maintain and operate cash registers for admissions, pass, and retail sales.
  • Ensure special offers, discounts and cash handling procedures are completed in adherence with policies and procedures.

Qualifications and Experience


As the ideal candidate, you possess at least grade 11 plus 3 years of related experience in a retail or customer service environment experience. An equivalent combination of training and experience may be acceptable.


Knowledge and strong interest in the cultural and natural history of Nova Scotia and its Museums. You are a self-motivated individual who works well independently and participants fully in a team environment, you value the concepts of equity, diversity, and inclusion to all areas of work.


You are proficient using Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, databases, internet), have excellent organizational skills, and strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal). You also have Experience with cash handling, POS, and inventory control systems.


Assets for this role include:


  • Training or certification in tourism, hospitality, retail and/or museum studies
  • Certification in first aid and WHMIS, SuperHost
  • Ability to speak French.

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

Pay Grade: CL 13

Salary Range: $1,450.14 - $1,578.47 Bi-Weekly
