Full Description

Function/Purpose:

The URD Utility Worker - EL&P is a skilled work helper to assist on a powerline crew and for the maintenance of the Electrical Department tools and small equipment.

  • Loads, unloads and distributes material over the working area.
  • Graffiti removal
  • Checking street lights to ensure operational
  • Other Duties as assigned

Job Requirements:

  • Completion of Grade 12 plus four years related work experience
  • Valid Class 3 Driver’s License with Q endorsement
  • Knowledge of the tools and supplies used in the construction and maintenance of electric lines including knowledge of the proper sequence of delivery of tools and materials to the lineman
  • WHIMIS knowledge is an asset
  • Standard First Aid plus knowledge of fundamental safety regulations and the necessary precautions to be taken on high voltage electric line construction and maintenance
  • Ability to perform heavy labour in all types of weather conditions
  • Ability to tie the proper hitches and knots
  • Skilled in the use of hand tools as related to electrical construction and maintenance
  • Ability to diagnose deficiencies and problems with tools and safety equipment
  • Ability to perform minor repairs to tools and equipment
  • Ability to understand written and oral instruction
  • Ability to maintain good working relationships with others and communicate effectively with the public
  • Ability to maintain neat and accurate records
  • Ability to work flexible hours/shifts as assigned

Remuneration: $31.82 per hour

Hours of Work: 40 hours biweekly, Monday to Friday - 7:30 am to 4:30 pm; may be required to work some overtime when needed.
