Main Purpose and Function

The Marketing & Communications (M & C) Coordinator, works under the direction of the Senior Manager of Sales, and is responsible for developing, leading and supporting a variety of communications and marketing strategies for the Vancouver Civic Theatres (VCT) and it’s venues: The Queen Elizabeth Theatre, Orpheum, Vancouver Playhouse and the Annex. Working directly with the VCT Programming Department, the position is responsible for creating and implementing marketing and sales campaigns for VCT Community Arts Programming and VCT presents shows; as well as fulfilling the Marketing Services offerings for rental clients. The position will also focus on increased brand awareness, and lead all VCT related communications efforts that align with the long range strategic plan for VCT. The position will liaise with media contacts, the arts community, VCT audiences, vendors and a variety of stakeholders.


Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develops overall marketing and communication plans with a focus on expanding VCT brand recognition across all sectors.
  • Creates and implements marketing campaigns across all marketing channels for VCT Community Arts Programming and VCT Presents events and performances with a focus on sales strategies and patron retention.
  • Analyzes sales, engagement and attendance data to recommend where marketing and communication strategies should focus, change or be revised.
  • Oversees general strategy for the organization’s digital properties (website, blog, email marketing, and social media channels)
  • Responsible for advertising buys and production of marketing materials, either internally or with third party vendors
  • Supports the VCT website, coordinates with IT and Digital Services on updates and oversees contracted service/change orders updates and ensures it is serving the needs of clients, patrons and other stakeholders
  • Determines Partner and Sponsor opportunities, developing sponsor packages and pitches, overseeing sponsor fulfillment and VCT value propositions
  • Develops and monitoring departmental KPI’s and annual work plans
  • Supervises and delegates work to the marketing department
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Position Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • Diploma or University degree in Marketing, Communications or a related discipline, plus considerable related experience in a marketing position, or an equivalent combination of training, education and experience.
  • Experience leading successful marketing campaigns
  • Experience working in supporting sales functions in performance based business
  • Experience in supervising staff

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong working knowledge of media monitoring services, content management systems, email marketing platforms, and social media channels including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, and Vimeo.
  • Considerable knowledge of graphic design processes, photography, video production, print and web production, ADOBE Creative Suite and asset
  • Strong communication skills – both written and spoken. Adept at tailoring messages to specific print and digital platforms
  • Outstanding proofreading skills and attention to detail. Passion for the performing and visual arts.
  • Ability to create marketing and communication plans focused on the development and retention of patrons in a performing arts environment
  • Ability to make sound decisions and anticipate needs and appropriate timing for communication needs
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and juggle numerous tasks
  • Ability to create and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of stakeholders
  • Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve independently
  • Able to thrive in a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment
  • Ability to remain calm, alert and high functioning under stressful conditions.
  • Ability to work non-standard hours at times.
  • Ability to use relevant software programs.

Where operationally appropriate and subject to change, the City of Vancouver has a Flexible Work Program. This program allows staff to work remotely 1 – 4 days a week from locations that are a daily commutable distance from their work at a City worksite. At this time this position is eligible to be part of the Flexible Work Program.
