The opportunity:

KPMG's ESG practice provides a broad range of ISO, forest certification, consulting, and forest carbon related services to clients across Canada, US and Internationally. We are currently experiencing significant growth and demand in our expanding practice. We have exciting opportunities for professionals at both the manager and senior associate level to join our Vancouver based ESG Services team and grow their career in the high demand ESG realm. These positions are focused on providing ISO certification, forest certification and forest carbon related services to public and private sector clients but will also support the delivery of ESG related services across a range of other industry sectors.

KPMG provides certification to the following standards specific to the forest, paper, and packaging sector:
  • Sustainable Forestry Initiative® (SFI) Sustainable Forest Management, Fiber Sourcing and Chain of Custody Standards
  • CSA Z809 Sustainable Forest Management Standard
  • PEFCTM International Chain of Custody Standard
  • Forest Stewardship Council® Forest Management, Controlled Wood and Chain of Custody Standard
The position requires travel throughout North America and offers the opportunity to work on international forestry and sustainability assignments.

This position is based in Vancouver and remote/flexible working arrangements are available considering the future ways of work this position is foreseen to be a hybrid of in-person and virtual, allowing choice and flexibility to explore new ways of working and collaborating.

What you will do


  • Participating in the delivery of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, sustainable forest management certification audits, chain of custody audits and forest carbon verification audits
  • Assisting in the delivery of ESG assurance and advisory services across a range of public and private sector clients
  • Support KPMG's certification practice's business management system operating procedures in alignment with our accredited requirements
    Supporting business development initiatives, including proposals and business cases with budgets
  • Researching opportunities and issues and presenting recommendations and conclusions to Clients
  • Monitor and communicate engagement progress - risks, issues, engagement economics, etc. with the responsible Manager and/or Partner
  • Taking ownership of quality and timely file documentation, completion, and client deliverables
  • Developing strong relationships internally and with our clients to help grow yourself and new business opportunities, including identifying opportunities to provide additional services to clients
What you bring to the role


  • A degree in forestry, biology, engineering, environmental science, or a related discipline
  • Five years related experience is an asset
  • Recognition as an FSC, ISO 9001, ISO 14001 or ISO 45001 lead auditor is an asset
  • Consulting and/or auditing experience in progressive roles associated with ISO certification, sustainable forestry, greenhouse gas or environmental management
  • Excellent client service skills with an aptitude to understand the clients' business and maintain strong client relationships
Desirable Skills
  • An appropriate natural resource related professional designation or eligibility to obtain the designation (e.g., RPF, RPBio or P.Eng.)
  • Experience in carbon modelling, forest management planning, timberland planning, and/or forest operations
  • Exposure to or audit experience with ISO 14001, ISO 9001, ISO 45001 SFI or FSC standards
  • Exposure to or audit experience with GHG verification standards such as ISO 14064:3 is an asset but not required
  • Exposure to climate change adaptation and mitigation strategies, particularly related to land use
  • Knowledge / experience with sustainable forest management, including forest certification
  • An Auditor or Lead Auditor designation through a recognized auditor certification bodies would be an asset
  • Fluency in French would be considered an asset
