Are you looking to apply your GIS experience and technical leadership skills to lead a team in meeting the dynamic geospatial needs for a wide variety of resource management activities? Then consider this exciting opportunity within Environment and Protected Areas!



Reporting to the Manager, Geospatial Projects, you would be responsible for developing, implementing, coordinating, maintaining and enhancing resource information, GIS and related information technology services in support of regional and departmental business priorities and programs.



This position requires a broad knowledge of resource management, geospatial sciences, data and technology as well as government policies and practices in order to support regional programs and client requirements. The incumbent is expected to manage the work of the Geospatial Unit, develop strategies and set priorities for the services provided, as well as perform technical services work as required.



You would manage delivery of services and programs with a large degree of independence, and would be the primary regional contact for all GIS and resource information data and services. The scope of work can range from simple field mapping and data analysis, to large scale cross-ministry landscape level initiatives involving complex GIS analysis and modelling.

Responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring that all client requirements for services are identified and documented.
  • Scheduling and coordinating client requests for services.
  • Supervises and leads the geospatial unit team; developing and monitoring work plans and tasks assigned to staff.
  • Monitoring and managing the allocation of resources to ensure that the deadlines for client requests are met.
  • Developing and implementing the required processes and procedures to ensure that the services provided are of the highest quality.

  • Developing and reporting on workforce and service performance metrics.
  • Coordinating with other region leads in the province to standardize processes, procedures and standards for services to ensure that they consistent across the Province.
  • Liaising and meeting with regional, departmental and other government (GOA) clients to ensure that the type, quality and level of services provide continue to meet client requirements.
  • Interfacing with industry, vendors and other non-government organizations to ensure that the unit is current on following industry best practices.
  • Providing geomatics, GIS and other subject matter expertise when required.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • University degree in Geomatics, GIS or related natural resources specialization.
  • Plus 4 years of related experience such as in geomatics, GIS, and leading a team.


Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.


Assets:

  • Progressive experience in leadership roles related to GIS and informatics and well-developed supervisory skills with experience leading teams.
  • Demonstrated capability to prioritize tasks, and negotiate timelines.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of GIS data and processes as the apply to natural resource and environmental business practices.
  • Demonstrated superior technical expertise in geomatics, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and geospatial sciences, data and technologies.
  • Experience in complex data analysis, modeling or database management is desired.
  • Experience in projects that utilize remote sensing, soft copy photogrammetry, LiDAR or Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) data collection and processing would be beneficial.
  • Excellent oral, written and presentation skills.

Salary

$2,716.64 to $3,550.90 biweekly ($70,904 - $92,678/year)

Hours of Work: 36.25 hours per week, Monday to Friday

Please Note: This is a full time permanent position located in either Fort McMurray or Lac La Biche with some travel to other regional offices.
