The opportunity:

KPMG's Performance M&A is a service within KPMG's Operations M&A, Deal Advisory practice that helps clients gain value from every phase of their merger, acquisition, carve-out or divestment. We offer start-to-finish support in the acquisition process, including input on strategy, early identification of risk and upside areas, coordination, and execution of due diligence investigations (financial and operational). We also help our clients to find, get and keep tangible value for the business they are buying, selling, or integrating by identifying, quantifying, and delivering the changes required to align their operating models to their financial targets and strategic objectives.

Our clients are typically private equity funds, pension funds, large public companies, and private corporations.

Our Performance M&A team in Toronto is looking for a professional like you with the skills and drive to make a real difference. As a Performance M&A Intern, you will work as part of a collaborative team to help our clients solve some of their most difficult problems.

What you will do


  • Assist in identifying and quantifying performance improvement opportunities, using multiple and/or large sets of financial and operational data
  • Assist in delivering value creation initiatives (e.g., optimization of operation, of purchasing and supply chain structures, of workforce, of top-line portfolio and pricing, of cash and working capital positions, etc.)
  • Assist in identifying synergy initiatives and/or reviewing synergy and value creation plans
  • Assist clients with synergy or cost saving planning, tracking and execution
  • Assist in estimating additional costs required for a carved-out entity to operate as a standalone business
  • Perform industry research, produce benchmarks, and collect financial and operational comparator data to leverage external insights
  • Interact and communicate effectively with client executives
What you bring to the role


  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent PowerPoint and Excel skills to take ownership and accountability for delivery of client-ready deliverables
  • A motivated self-starter with excellent attention to detail
  • Proven ability to work effectively and collaboratively with high-performing teams
  • High proficiency in quantitative and qualitative analyses combined with financial, operational, and commercial acumen
  • Some understanding of mergers & acquisitions and business performance would be an asset
  • Ability to understand and interpret financial statements and evaluate financial performance of a business through analysis
  • A Bachelor's degree (or working towards) in a technical field of study is required.
