Regular Full-Time and Auxiliary

We are looking for two Regular Full Time Communications Operator 2’s to join our police communications centre. In the regular full-time position, you will work as part of a team on 12-hour rotating shifts in a Police Operational Communications Centre (2 day shifts and 2 night shifts, followed by 4 days off). Auxiliary positions are also available for those interested in casual Communications Operator work.

As a Communications Operator 2 you will operate police communications equipment to determine call priority, respond to 911 emergency and non-emergency calls from the public, and control deployment and dispatch of police in response to calls for service. Accuracy of work is key in taking reports and creating files.

Poised and tactful in stressful situations, you possess sound judgement as well as excellent listening, communication, and decision-making skills. Previous police dispatching experience is essential, along with considerable knowledge of police radio protocols, computer operation, local geography, and RCMP processes. High school diploma and courses in keyboarding are required. Additional courses in Criminology, Psychology, Public Safety Communications, Conflict Resolution, or Crisis Intervention are an asset. Ability to obtain and maintain RCMP Enhanced Reliability Security Clearance is required.
