About Our Opportunity


The Manager, Parks & Recreation, is accountable for providing leadership in park planning, infrastructure renewal, policies, and strategies for the Nova Scotia Provincial Park system.


Primary Accountabilities


The Manager works towards a system of sustainable parks, protected beaches and trails that positively influence the Nova Scotia quality of life and economy by providing opportunities for protection, nature tourism, outdoor recreation, and educational activities.


This position is responsible for building and maintaining respectful relationships, negotiating and facilitating clear direction, enabling and inspiring leaders, and ensuring exceptional collaboration and engagement with internal and external stakeholders.


The Manager is also responsible for the health and safety of staff and will ensure compliance with Department of Natural Resources and Renewables (NRR) Occupational Health and Safety program and policies.

Qualifications and Experience


Bachelor's degree in a field related to natural resources plus several years of progressive management experience or an equivalent of education and experience will be considered. Experience in parks and trails sector is considered an asset.


The successful candidate will have experience in the use of computers and be able to demonstrate effective management skills and abilities with emphasis on work planning and evaluation, human resource management, financial management, written and verbal communications, problem solving, conflict resolution, time management, and excellent organizational abilities.


This position also requires a results-oriented individual with a high level of initiative, motivation and a sound understanding of park and trail management. Proven leadership ability is crucial to effectively work in a complex organization which is subject to continuous internal and external demands and changes.


The successful candidate must have a valid driver’s license.

Pay Grade: EC 12

Salary Range: $3,458.20 - $4,322.75 Bi-Weekly
