Community Living Service Delivery (CLSD), Crisis and Respite Services works with individuals experiencing intellectual disabilities to ensure their physical, emotional, and social needs are met with goal of supporting their independence, living arrangements, and lifestyle as independent as possible within their own home and community.

McCallum Home in Saskatoon requires caring, enthusiastic positive role models for the Community Residential Worker position to support clients in living their lives to their fullest. In this rewarding position, your work will promote and support your clients’ independence through individualized/group programming and community participation geared to their own individualized needs. Your interactions with your clients will establish positive and supportive relations utilizing best practices and initiatives consistent with their individualized programming and supportive plan.

Community Residential Workers directly work with clients providing quality client-centered services to enhance an individual’s ability to function safely and independently, building rapport and trusting relations with the client, the client’s families and third parties enhancing the client’s life and lifestyle. Your hands on work and engagement with the client is conducted in a learning and supportive manner and utilizes your effective communication, positive role modeling, patience, adaptability, leadership, and organization to assist in completing the following responsibilities:

  • Deliver direct therapeutic services and to individuals living in the home;
  • Deliver vocational programs and community supports;
  • Assist with personal care duties (hygiene, eating, dressing, transporting), and life skills;
  • Facilitate physical, recreational, social, and educational activities;
  • Implement individualized comprehensive behaviour support strategies (least restrictive);
  • Deliver crisis support services;
  • De-escalate various types of behaviours ensuring the client, yourself, and others safety; and
  • Drive and transport clients.

Typically, the level of knowledge and skills for this position is obtained through post-secondary education in a related human service field such as Disability Support Worker, Psychology or Social Work and/or gained through related experience working in a therapeutic capacity with people with intellectual disabilities who may display complex and challenging behaviours.

This position is a shift work position; the successful candidate must be legally eligible to operate a vehicle supplied by the Ministry.
