We have an exciting opportunity for a Community and Social Development Coordinator to join our Development Services team. Reporting to the Director of Development Approvals, this exempt role is responsible for working collaboratively with stakeholders in the alignment of policy, strategies, and resourcing to maximize the City’s response to housing and social challenges. Topics of attention for this position include: housing attainability and land use, social planning, complex needs, homelessness, shelter services, transitional housing, poverty and harm reduction, vulnerable populations, community health and wellness, and community building.

This position will act as a liaison between community groups, agencies and other levels of government advocating for funding and coordinating responses to community health challenges, social equity, and cultural diversity.

Who is the ideal Candidate?

  • Bachelor’s degree in community development, social policy, urban planning or related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a related position with progressively greater responsibilities
  • Membership in an accredited and related professional organization or discipline
  • A demonstrated ability to mediate conflict situations
  • Demonstrated experience in preparing and developing policies, practices and programs that involve complex interrelationships between community development, socio-cultural sustainability, and community interest
  • Ability to clearly communicate complex and controversial issues through Council reports, presentations and other visual materials
  • Experience preparing Council reports and presentations
  • Experience in negotiating agreements, terms, and conditions with partnering agencies
  • Valid Class 5 B.C. Drivers License
