Hours of Work: 80 hours bi-weekly

Shift Work Required: Yes

Rate of Pay: $28.73 per hour
(Training Opportunity rate of pay is $27.29 per hour. The successful candidate will be paid at the reduced rate until the minimum qualifications have been met.)

Initial Reporting Location: Frobisher (CityWide)

Section: Roads Operations
Division: Linear Infrastructure Services
Department: Growth and Infrastructure

Duties: Under the supervision of a Foreperson.

1. Lay brick, concrete block, building stone or shaped tile in the construction and maintenance of sewers, manholes, catchbasins, valve chambers, retaining walls or building walls.

2. Develop and maintain a thorough working knowledge of CGS's Safety Manual and the applicable Provincial Legislation listed therein.

3. Perform other related duties as required.

NOTE: This classification automatically converts to a Winter Control Position for the Winter Control Period in accordance with the terms and conditions outlined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of Secondary School (Grade XII) Education.
  • Minimum of three years (3) experience as a Bricklayer.
  • Must be able to work without direct supervision and carry out all work required in the construction of brick and block manholes, catch basins, valve chambers or retaining walls.
  • Ability to interpret plans and specifications as required.
  • Must be able to effectively complete C.M.M.S. Crew Cards.
  • Excellent use of English; verbally and in writing.
  • Satisfactory health, attendance and former employment history.
  • May require the use of a CGS vehicle on CGS business. Must be physically capable of operating a vehicle safely, possess a valid driver's licence and have an acceptable driving record.
