Job Summary
Under supervision of the Superintendent this position is responsible for supervising and supporting shop employees, operations, and as required, active participation in regular Journeyperson duties.
Duties & Responsibilities
1. Assigns work and daily tasks, provides staff supervision, and as required, assists staff with their daily duties.
2. Provides leadership and mentorship to Fleet Services employees and supports staff development.
3. Consults and coordinates with internal and external stakeholders via verbal, phone, etc regarding items such as repairs and equipment status
4. Collaborates with Service Writer to monitor sublet units and delegates the pick-up and delivery of units and parts.
5. Coordinates repairs found on inspections, service rack, grease rack and wash rack as required.
6. Provides support and direction for mechanical repairs, as required in order for staff to complete work.
7. Collaborates with Superintendents in regard to campaigns, bulletins, updates, product and technology support, etc.
8. Ensures safe work practices are followed and participates in safety investigations as required.
9. Communicates and reviews shop operations with Fleet Services Superintendents.
10. Supports and promotes the health and safety of employees and the general public in accordance with the Saskatchewan Employment Act, Saskatchewan Health Regulations and Standards, Occupational Health & Safety Regulations and the City of Saskatoon’s administrative Occupational Health & Safety policies and departmental procedures. Maintains and monitors programs which affect public and employee health and safety.
11. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Grade 12 education.
  • Possession of a valid provincial or inter-provincial Journeyperson designation in the applicable trade as it relates to City of Saskatoon fleet maintenance and management. Possession of a recognized Apprenticeship Certificate is preferred.
  • Successful completion of recognized courses related to the industry, e.g. safety system changes and computer technology.
  • Five years of journeyperson related experience in an applicable trade, including three years of supervisory experience.
  • Possession of a valid WHMIS certificate.
  • Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 3A Driver’s Licence.
  • Current driver’s abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record.
  • Thorough knowledge of the operation and use of current diagnostic tools and equipment.
  • Considerable knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
  • Considerable knowledge of electronic engines, electronic transmissions, fuel systems, brake systems and associated components.
  • Ability to deliver proficient customer service and carry out responsibilities of the position in accordance with the corporate values.
  • Demonstrated ability to delegate work, schedule and supervise staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide effective customer service.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision, individually or as a team member.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand technical service manuals and bulletins.
  • Ability to complete and process all forms and reports.
  • Physical ability to perform the assigned duties.
  • Skill in the operation of a computer.

Weekly Hours: 8
Salary Range: $44.88 to $44.88 CAD per hour (2022 rates)
