The Ministry of Social Services, Income Assistance Programs Division, is seeking a professional, energetic, analytical, and methodical thinker to be part of the division’s Financial Operations Unit. You will be integral member of financial services team that is responsible for providing forecasting, budgeting and financial consulting expertise in support of the programs and strategic direction of the Ministry.

Reporting to the Manager of Financial Operations, the successful candidate will be responsible for working with financial consultants and divisional managers on developing and reporting on the division’s financial plan. The successful candidate’s primary responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of the financial plan for the division;
  • Provide leadership and support in the developing of financial and FTE budgets to support the delivery of Income Assistance programs;
  • Establish and manage processes for fiscal forecasting and budgeting to meet the requirements of division deliverables and reporting;
  • Prepare financial reports in accordance with ministry and government policies; and,
  • Provide advice and recommendation to management on financial issues, legislative requirements, Ministerial and government policies and processes to ensure they are fully informed when making decisions on spending and programing actions.
The successful candidate will have outstanding organizational, interpersonal and communication skills and will have knowledge and experience working with:
  • Public Sector Accounting Standards and financial processes including budgeting, forecasting, and reporting within the public sector;
  • Applicable Acts, regulations, policies, procedures, contracts and systems; and,
  • Computer software applications such as Microsoft Excel, Word and Access, integrated financial systems and financial reporting systems. Knowledge of MIDAS would be considered an asset.
Typically, knowledge for this position is gained through the successful completion of an undergraduate Degree in Commerce, Business Administration, or related discipline combined with an accounting designation. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
