Job Description
The Capital Markets arm of CIBC provides integrated capital markets products, investment banking advisory services, corporate lending and top-ranked research to corporate, government, institutional and retail clients around the world. Our goal is to be the leading Capital Markets franchise in Canada and the lead relationship bank for key clients globally. CIBC Capital Markets consists of three lines of business; Global Markets, Global Investment Banking and Corporate Banking.
What You’ll Be Doing
The incumbent will be responsible for advising, structuring and originating debt securities across a broad range of government issuers in Canada, with some coverage of corporate issuers as well. The individual will be actively involved in executing transactions in both the public and private placement markets to institutional and retail investors in Canada.
How You’ll Succeed
  • Working both with government and corporate clients across a variety of sectors
  • Assisting in the structuring, execution and documentation of new issue debt transactions
  • Conducting credit analysis and financial modeling for prospective issuers
  • Coordinating the provision of new issue pricing information to clients (both in C$ and U$)
  • Preparing client presentations/pitches
  • Preparing and distributing communications regarding new bond transactions
  • Preparing transaction documentation and ensuring timely settlement
  • Monitoring the overall Canadian capital markets (flows, trends, funding opportunities)
  • Develop and maintain database for investor feedback related to new issues including reverse inquiries
  • Working closely within Global Markets and in part with Investment Banking, Corporate Banking as part of the overall client coverage team
  • Working closely with Debt Capital Markets offices in New York, London and Luxembourg on client coverage
CROSS-FUNCTIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
  • Syndication and Trading groups as well as Fixed Income Sales and Interest Rate Hedging within Global Markets
  • Investment Banking, Corporate Banking
  • Other key infrastructure groups, such as Middle Office, Back Office, Finance, Technology and Operations
Who You Are
  • Undergraduate University or Master’s degree in Finance, Commerce or Mathematics
  • Minimum of 5 years of related business experience is a requirement
  • Demonstrated self-starter
  • Experience in deal execution, specifically in government finance, is an asset
  • A good understanding of credit analysis
  • Understanding of derivatives is an asset
  • Proven ability to pay close attention to detail and multi-task under tight deadline
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent analytical and quantitative skills
  • Capable of building strong relationships
  • Willing to work extended hours in a high pressure/high reward environment
  • Strong inter-personal skills, good team player
  • Strong multi-tasking and time management skills
  • Working knowledge and proven interest in pursuing a career in Capital Markets
