The Program Manager, Agriculture, working with support and direction from UEC Science and Innovation, will be a major contributor to the strategic plan and future growth of UEC’sAgriculture and Food Security program. Altogether to re-invigorate Agriculture/Agri-tech and address food insecurity by supporting self-reliance and self-determination in Indigenous communities throughout Atlantic Canada. A vested interest in advancing the position and experience of Indigenous youth and community is essential in building this vision.

The Opportunity               

As a Program Manager, you will be required to understand and adhere with high level objectives. Without needing detailed instructions on how to proceed, you will be able to capture and deliver very concise and measurable results contributing to those objectives, while also working within a very broad scope of potential opportunity.

To begin, you will plan for the next phases of UEC’s Greenhouse initiative, working with stakeholders, rightsholders, and consultants to facilitate the creation of accompanying business plans. You will regularly investigate and plan research initiatives within the Greenhouse network. The Program Manager will plan and manage the creation and implementation of agriculture based educational modules for all ages.

By using internal team capacity to build the program framework, this role will work closely with the Director and Senior Project Manager to ensure the future of the Agriculture Program by developing strong partnerships and securing public and private sector funding for the initiative.

The Program Manager is responsible and accountable for providing leadership and management to enable sustainable and resilient production of food and agriproducts to advance the position of communities in a manner that is sustainable and adaptable to evolving public, climatic, resource and economic conditions - to support sustainable, profitable and Indigenous led agricultural production and innovation.

An interest in STEAM, life-long learning, teaching, and creating is not required, but will ensure a positive experience at UEC.

Qualifications           

  • Demonstrated experience working with Indigenous communities, building relationships with Indigenous people and communities, and implementing the principles of reconciliation
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field plus 5 years of related experience or Master’s degree plus 3 years of related experience.
  • Project management experience in a related field e.g. economics, business, finance, agriculture or environmental management. PMP, PSM, or other Project Management certifications are considered an asset.
  • Successful track record in proposal writing (Grant, Federal RFP’s, etc.)
  • Experience leading the development and implementation of programs/policies/ initiatives that are linked to organizational objectives and strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to leverage opportunities for innovation, find creative solutions to issues, and successfully manage change.
  • Demonstrated capacity to learn quickly, adapt, grow, and perform consistently as a self-starter who is detail oriented, well-organized, and able to plan and execute projects from conception to completion.
  • Excellent communication skills, including both written and verbal, in person and online.
  • Creative and innovative thinking, and willingness to challenge the status quo, propose new ideas, and identify opportunities.
  • Demonstrates self-awareness, cultural competency and inclusivity, and ability to work with colleagues and stakeholders across diverse cultures and backgrounds, including industry professionals, community groups and rightsholders
  • Proficiency with software systems including Microsoft Office 365, project tools such as Trello, Asana, and Miro is required, or a demonstrated ability to learn new tools quickly.
  • Exemplary verbal and written communication skills in a variety of settings from senior leadership to early learners.
  • Extremely well organized and the ability to multitask.
  • Proven ability to work both independently and within a small, fast-paced, dynamic and creative team environment with diverse populations.
