In-Scope
Multiple Positions – Full-time and Part-time Positions available
GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY
The Parts Technician is responsible for the pricing, sale, shipping, receiving, inventory and payment processing of vehicle parts, whole vehicles and property.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Note: This section is not intended to be an exhaustive list of duties and responsibilities – other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.
  • Provides customer service related to the sale, warranty and billing of vehicle parts, whole vehicles and property.
  • Receives and processes payments and issues receipts.
  • Monitors and maintains SGI Salvage Website (i.e. date entry and maintenance of bids on website, replies to customer bids, inquiries).
  • Ensures proper inspection requirements are placed on vehicles and takes correction action if required.
  • Determines salvage value of vehicles/property for claims retention.
  • Prepares yard orders for parts to be dismantled and shipped.
  • Issues vehicle registration permits.
  • Prices vehicle parts, whole vehicles and general salvage and inspects and identify parts for resale. Makes price adjustments when needed (Price matching).
  • Determines replacement parts required, according to inspection of old parts, customer requests, or customers’ description of malfunctions.
  • Works with the inventory system to identify parts required for stock; participates in annual inventory.
  • Ships, receives and inspects parts.
  • Gathers customer information or product information to determine customer needs.
  • Responds to all customer requests, explains technical product or services information to customer.
  • Handles all basic warranty issues.
  • Processes all returns and credits on all salvage transactions.
  • Handles cash, credit card transactions as well as other methods of payments.
  • Conducts the daily deposit of payments. Post payments to GL accounts.
  • Issues payments to vendors for services.
  • Inspects salvage vehicles to ensure that damages and condition match the claim file information and advises the Senior Parts Technician or Manager of any discrepancies. Verifies that vehicle VIN number matches claims file information.

TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
  • Knowledge of automotive parts and their inter-changeability
  • Knowledge of the automobile market, automotive repair costs and salvage values.
  • Knowledge of motor vehicle and sheet metal damage and vehicle estimation practices.
  • Knowledge inventory controls and warehousing procedures.
  • Knowledge of SGI auto adjusting policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of requirements for vehicle inspections and standards.
  • Knowledge of all automated systems utilized by Salvage.
EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS
  • Grade 12/GED.
  • 3 I-CAR courses.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s licence.
EXPERIENCE
  • 1 - 3 years’ directly related industry related experience.
