Reporting to the Principal, the Illinniarvimmi Inuusilirji provides support and guidance to students, promotes the relevance of education in the community and fosters mutual understanding between the community and the school.

The Illinniarvimmi Inuusilirji is an active member of the education staff and school team and is a community resource person and student advocate who supports, promotes, and involves students, parents and the community as partners in education.

The Illinniarvimmi Inuusilirji promotes self-fulfillment and success for life for students and is a cultural resource to the school staff.

The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are typically met by someone that has completed Grade 12 or an Adult Basic Education equivalent to Grade 12 or higher and has five (5) years or more years of experience at the community level. An ideal candidate should also have a First Aid Certificate, Completion of the Suicide Prevention Training (ASIST) and Mental Health First Aid Training and computer literacy including with programs such as Word and Excel.

This is a Highly Sensitive Position and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, along with a clear Vulnerable Sector Check is required.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
