The Opportunity
Heavy Equipment Operator:
Successful applicant operates and is responsible for two or more of the following: motor grader, front-end loaders (1 ½ cubic yards and over bucket capacity), tractor loader-backhoes, crawler tractors (D4 or larger), tractors (80 hp and over), bidirectional flail mower, snow blowers (aux engine - min. 7 ft. Width), street sweeper (3 cubic yards and over), self-propelled riding asphalt pave, Vacuum Eductor Machine, and any other similar equipment. Ability to work on shifts that will supply 24/7 coverage during winter operations. Will have valid Alberta Driver’s License (Class III with Air Endorsement).

Responsibilities*
The main duties for this position include plowing snow on priority roadways with a team of graders and loaders maintaining safe passage of traffic. You will also be instrumental in the success of our sweeping and gravel road program in the spring and summer.

You Bring*

  • Valid Alberta Drivers License. (Class III with Air Endorsement)
  • Knowledge of operation and maintenance of a Motor Grader, Street Sweeper, and Loader.
  • Experience in all aspects of Sweeping Operations, Gravel Roads Operations and Snow Removal Operations.
  • Ability to work shifts
  • *Assets related to this position includes:
  • Knowledge of other Transportation Crews duties.
  • Certification in First Aid and WHMIS and Transportation of Dangerous Goods.
  • Basic Computer Skills.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to become skilled at operating other equipment as required.

The Transportation Department is a multi-task weather dependent department. The successful candidate may be required to perform other duties as required on a day to day basis. May be required to participate in standby rotation.
This position is based on a 40 hour work week. Safety footwear is required. Please note that smoking restrictions are in effect.

The successful candidate may be asked to undergo a physical needs assessment.

Hours*
Summer and Winter Heavy Equip Op- 40 hours a week, generally on afternoon Shift between the hours of 14:00 and 22:00

Salary/Wage*
The classification indicates a pay rate and normal assignment, with other duties assigned as required, and a pay rate as per C.U.P.E. Collective Agreement of $36.81/hr.
