The Alberta Children's Hospital is a vibrant workplace with staff, youth, families & physicians partnering together to provide service to children and families in inpatient units & ambulatory clinics. The Orthotist is an integral member of the multidisciplinary team within the Alberta Children's Hospital providing patient care to children in the inpatient and ambulatory settings who require orthotic devices. The Orthotist provides consultation to other health care professionals and provides work direction to the orthotic technicians. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team; will exhibit excellent clinical reasoning & problem-solving skills, including analytical thinking & conflict resolution; will be organized while working in a busy clinic; will demonstrate initiative, adaptability & flexibility to meet varying clinical & operational needs; be adaptable & open to change in the implementation of innovative care; and demonstrates effective interpersonal & verbal/written communication skills. Description:

As a Certified Orthotist, you will provide specialized care to patients with medical conditions of the neuromuscular-skeletal structure of the body by evaluating, measuring, designing, fabricating, fitting and aligning orthotic devices. You will instruct the client/patient on the proper use and manipulation of the orthoses in activities of daily living and refer clients/patients to private clinics when needed. You will provide training and educational programs to health care professionals, interns, students and external organizations.

Required Qualifications:

Active or eligible for registration with the Canadian Board for Certification of Prosthetists and Orthotists (CBCPO).

Additional Required Qualifications:

The Orthotist role in pediatrics can be physically demanding, requiring the candidate to be able to tolerate prolonged sitting/standing, pushing/pulling of equipment, transferring & lifting patients, and the ability to maintain sustained awkward postures during the assessment, castings and other interventions.

Preferred Qualifications:

5 years of recent experience in the assessment and treatment of children. Competencies in AHS computer applications related to care delivery & AHS communications. Competency with Spectra 3D Scanner and CanFit Design. Connect Care experience. Experience in the design of custom or one-of-a-kind orthoses working in conjunction with 3D motion assessment.
