MLTC was created by nine First Nations located in north-west Saskatchewan who have constitutionally recognized aboriginal rights and Treaty Rights under Treaties #6, #8 and #10. The primary purpose of MLTC is to serve those First Nations in their aspirations for cultural, economic and political autonomy. As a private sector employer engaged primarily in promoting and serving the interests of the member First Nations, MLTC asserts its right to provide preferential treatment to First Nations people, giving them priority in decisions on employment matters such as hiring, and this can extend to measures such as opening competitions only to First Nations people.

The MLTC Health & Social Development Department is seeking a highly motivated individual to fill a full time permanent position as the Addictions Holistic Coordinator, based out of the Buffalo Narrows Sub Office. This individual will promote community wellness and practice a holistic approach to living a healthy lifestyle.

The Addictions Holistic Coordinator will work closely with the MLTC Community Wellness program and community based Addictions workers to provide an integrated holistic approach to addictions issues. The Addictions Holistic Coordinator provides advice, support, training, and guidance to the Addictions workers in the nine (9) MLFN communities.

MLTC Addictions Holistic Coordinator Objectives:

  • To reduce the incidence of addictions behavior among the MLFN community members.
  • To decrease social problems related to addictions that impact on individuals, families and communities.
  • Provide Education, Prevention, Intervention, and Treatment services using cultural approach and models that will support healing and wellness for individuals, families and communities in addressing addiction issues.

Qualifications:

· A Bachelor Degree in Social Work, Psychology, and/or Counselling; Registered Psychiatric Nurse; or other related areas of expertise from a post-secondary institution of recognized standing.

· Five (5) years of experience and demonstrated knowledge in Mental Health and Addictions Counselling combined with experience in coordinating First Nation community based programs.

· Certification in Chemical Dependency is considered a valuable asset.

· Will possess excellent interpersonal, time-management, and organizational skills.

· Will be knowledgeable and sensitive to First Nations’ culture and beliefs; issues and barriers.

· Must be addiction free, sober, and intent on living a healthy balanced lifestyle.

· Ability to speak/understand Cree/Dene is considered a valuable asset.

  • Must be willing and able to travel extensively.
