Use your technical expertise to bring Arts and Entertainment to your community! We’re currently looking for a Theatre Technician to join our Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services department. Working out of the beautiful Shadbolt Centre for the Arts, you’ll provide advice and assistance in areas such as lighting, sound, set development, and theatre operations. You’ll work with community members leasing the theatre to provide assistance with stage management, scenic, lighting, and sound requirements. You’ll also prepare cost estimates for budgeting or repair purposes, and perform repair and maintenance tasks on equipment such as stage lights, sound systems and related items. You’ll perform related work as required.

To qualify, you’ll need to have completed Grade 12 supplemented by technical courses related to this work, plus related technical theatre experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. You should have considerable knowledge of the methods, practices, tools and equipment used in operating a theatre, as well as of policies, codes and regulations. You should also have knowledge of technical stage requirements for theatre and presentations, and can advise on theatrical stage necessities, theatre operations, facilities and requirements. You’ll need to be able to work irregular hours in order to hit deadlines under pressure. You should also be an effective communicator who can speak with colleagues and members of the public alike.
