Aquatics Program Administrator (12 month contract – 2 positions available):

Reporting to the Aquatics Supervisor, the Aquatics Program Administrator is accountable for quality assurance, program planning, scheduling, staff development, public relations and administration for the aquatic section. This position is responsible to recruit, train, supervise, lead, coach, evaluate and manage staff performance to ensure quality levels are maintained. The Aquatics Program Administrator acts as a liaison for internal and external customers and residents to provide expertise in the supervision and programming at aquatic facilities while meeting community needs. They ensure adherence to Ministry of Health, Lifesaving Society and Red Cross standards and promote aquatic safety within the community while meeting specific sectional goals and objectives.


Job Duties Include:

  • Plans, implements, supervises, evaluates aquatic programs
  • Responsible for Aquatic Registration
  • Prepares Community Recreation Guide submission for area of responsibility
  • Schedules pool space for programs and services
  • Conducts Active Net maintenance weekly
  • Performs regular program visits to monitor successful delivery of program standards
  • Makes recommendation for hiring, discipline and dismissal as required
  • Selects, trains, coaches and supervises a large team of part-time staff and volunteers
  • Screens applicants, draft interview questions, organizes wet and dry interviews, and conducts interviews
  • Prepares staff schedules and special swim schedules as required
  • Composes and issues staff evaluations, coaching logs, verbal and written warnings
  • Provides customer service and aquatic/recreation education to residents
  • Responds to customer feedback forms in accordance with ISO quality standards
  • Assist residents with program selection
  • Represents department through networking/liaising with appropriate agencies/municipalities
  • Committee involvement
  • Affiliation with Lifesaving Society, Red Cross, HIGH FIVE, PRO and Boards of Education regarding program updates and industry standards

Qualifications/Skills:

  • College Diploma or University Degree (Recreation/Leisure Studies or related discipline)
  • Exceeds post-secondary education by achieving and upholding extensive Aquatic leadership qualifications
  • Minimum four (4) years of progressively responsible experience within Recreation or related field with a minimum of 2 years aquatic supervisory experience or a combination of training, education and experience deemed equivalent
  • Experience in all aspects of staff management including recruitment, selection, training, coaching and supervision
  • Excellent leadership, oral and written communication, organizing and problem solving skills, with demonstrated decision making capabilities
  • Knowledge and experience related to the delivery of infant, child, youth, teen, adult, leadership and inclusion aquatic programs and services
  • Strong knowledge of aquatic operations including legislation and industry standards related to the operation of public swimming pools and spas
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Respectful of diverse opinions and perspectives
  • Committed to quality customer services and innovations to improve efficiencies and improve costs
  • Strong oral and written communications/presentation skills
  • Proficient skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Active Net
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities
  • Superior knowledge of legislation and industry standards related to the operation of public swimming pools and spas
  • Programming and scheduling skills
  • Aquatic qualifications current within 2 years including: Life Saving Society (LSS) National Lifeguard Service Award, Red Cross Water Safety Instructor or Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor, LSS Lifesaving Instructor/Examiner are mandatory
  • LSS NLS Instructor/Examiner(preferred), LSS Lifesaving Instructor Trainer & Examiner (preferred), Red Cross Instructor Trainer (preferred), Valid Standard First Aid & CPR C, Standard First Aid & CPR C Instructor (preferred)
  • HIGH FIVE PCHD, HIGH FIVE Quest (preferred)
  • Valid Class “G” driver’s license
  • Able to provide a Criminal Reference check with Vulnerable Sector screening dated within the last six months that is satisfactory to the Town

This 12 month contract is a full time non-union position that works 35 hours per week.
