What Does a Quality Control Lab Technician Do?

MacDonald Paving and Construction is part of Miller Paving Atlantic, based in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. MacDonald Paving and Construction provides the public and private sectors with road construction, paving, road and structure rehabilitation, engineering construction, aggregate- based materials, highway operations and maintenance services. Our ideal candidate will have strong initiative to perform routine inspection and testing of construction materials both asphalt and aggregate in the field and laboratory, in order to verify conformance to construction plans and specifications. The Technician will prepare daily reports and data sheets and may be called upon to perform various tasks at the discretion of the supervisor.

As a Quality Control Lab Technician, You Will:

  • Be responsible for maintaining a safe working environment by complying with all safety guidelines
  • Conduct laboratory and field tests in compliance with prevailing standards and procedures
  • Perform Field Quality Control Testing (Field and Lab sampling of Aggregate and Asphalt/Concrete)
  • Examine the sample provided and write/advise any discrepancy on test and field reports
  • Ensure that measuring equipment is calibrated
  • Participate in activities related to the quality system
  • Assist in maintaining the lab

What You'll Bring:

  • CSA or ACI concrete testing certification is an asset
  • Technical knowledge of aggregate and asphalt quality. CCIL Type C certification and quarry experience are considered assets
  • High school diploma or equivalence
  • Proficiency in MS Office and other similar software
  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment with rapidly changing priorities
  • Excellent communications skills and ability to report results
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Effective team player
  • Capable of repetitive lifting up to 50 pounds and working outdoors in inclement weather conditions
  • Flexible with hours to meet business needs and willingness to work occasional weekends
  • Class 5 driver’s licence with a clean driving record and access to a reliable vehicle
